An Odd Question...

There's a book I read once, long ago, and I've been trying to remember what it is for the life of me. All I remember is that it was a kid's book of some sort. In it, the government had announced that they were going to replace the flag with some godawful sequined piece of crap, and so a bunch of kids started a movement, walking across America in protest.
Does this ring a bell with anyone out there? The book would be at least 18-20 years old, if not more.

This question has been driving me crazy, off and on, for months. :>
