Final FFF Contest Update (For Me, Anyway)
May. 10th, 2007 03:23 pmThe votes were tallied, the judges have spoken, and the results are in.
I didn't win the grand prize, an all-expense paid trip to sunny, scenic... oh wait, wrong prize. No free critique from a real live agent for me.
On the one hand, I'm disappointed.
On the other, hey, that's life. So I wasn't the very best out of a random assortment of 250 writers. I can accept that. The winner (#102, go check them out at http://community.livejournal.com/fangs_fur_fey/100742.html )worked hard, and will undoubtedly go places with this. If I'd won, I'd probably have stressed, and ended up sending crappy work in to the agent anyway. This way, I can continue to work at my pace, especially since now I've actually -started-. And for me, starting is the hard part.
This contest was a valuable, useful experience for me. Writing my hook. Reading other hooks. Reading critiques. Writing 5 pages, reading other 5 pages, reading critiques.
Rest assured, world. There -will- be a Nick St. Claus novel sooner or later. Because now I know it's all about pacing...
And once again, I have to give major shout-outs to the writers of Fangs, Fur and Fey for taking the time and effort to give back a little to their unpublished colleagues. Classy bunch.
