Yesterday, in the afternoon, it was absolutely gorgeous in New Orleans. Sunny skies, brisk breeze, nice and warm. So we wandered around and had a grand old time. We started off by heading up Canal Street to meet someone we knew from online for lunch at a place called Mandina's. They specialize in Southern comfort food and fish. Not too bad. We accidentally blew all of our small bills on the ride up and at lunch, so afterwards, we had to walk a ways to find somewhere to break a large bill so we could hop the streetcar back. Whoops, lesson learned.

We went to the Aquarium, and had a blast. Stingrays, sharks, jellyfish, a giant white alligator, fish of all kinds, and who can forget the otters? They were mugging for the crowds.
We petted a baby nurse shark, and fed shrimp to the tame stingrays... I swear it was like feeding time back home with the cats, the way they all clumped up and tried to beat me for the food.

After we'd had our fill of the Aquarium, we wandered down along the river, and stopped in at the Shops at Jackson Brewery for snacks: boudin sausage, meat pies, fried pickles... so bad for us, but so tasty. Then it was back to the hotel via streetcar to relax and clean up before dinner, which was at Brennan's, a splendidly upscale, beautiful (and vaguely intimidating) place.

Y'know? Compared to the Delachaise, it lacked spirit. Technically perfect, excellent food, but most of it was just... there. It didn't have the spark, the passion of Chris deBarr's food, and we could tell. But then we got to dessert. If you go to Brennan's, do it for the Bananas Foster. I mean it. It blew me away.

Once done with dinner, we dodged the drizzle and headed down through the French Quarter, and ducked into Yo Mama's for drinks (single malt for me, Absolut Peach Sex On The Beach for her) just in time to avoid a torrential downpour. We waited it out, and then off we went, for a nice stroll down Bourbon Street and back to the hotel. Our last night here, alas, I'm already going to miss New Orleans.

Today, we're basically chilling, packing, and girding our loins for the return flight home.
