Science fiction is awesome.
Fantasy is awesome.
They belong together like peanut butter and jelly, ham and pineapple, Woodward and Bernstein, Gilbert and Sullivan, George and Gracie.
They both have strong points and weak points, and neither one is inherently superior nor inferior by comparison.
The overall genre which we shall call "speculative fiction" is big enough for them both.
The Science Fiction Poetry Association (SFPA) includes science fiction and fantasy (and horror) in its realm of influence. And as [livejournal.com profile] time_shark has pointed out, SFPA gives awards to sf -and- f poems.
SFWA really stands for Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America.

Science fiction and fantasy should be like Hunahpu and Xbalanque (the Mayan Hero Twins) ... not Cain and Abel.

And in case anyone is wondering, the only reason Scheherazade's Facade is a fantasy-only antho is because I wanted to keep things at least -somewhat- limited this time around. Who knows, maybe if there's a second volume, it can be the SF companion.

That's my two cents.
